An Exposé Message To the Mean-Spirited Kainan University:
You Can Take This Job and Shove It ! I ain't working here no more.
====================================================
The following letter written by an Assistant Professor from New Zealand is a true story that happened in Kainan University, Taiwan, in 2011. Professor Ian Clarke consistently received high scores in Course and Teaching Evaluation while he was teaching in Kainan University. He was even voted/selected for one of the university's "Excellent Teachers" in one year. But, it didn't matter. Ain't nobody in the higher-up care. What kind of uncivilized and crude person in a university administration would create such a "threatening and intimidating atmosphere"? This may sound like a scenario that usually appears in a gangster movie. Do not doubt it. No slightest exaggeration was there. This is exactly what happened in the terrible Kainan University, in northern Taiwan.
==========================================================
Dear Colleagues:
I have received a letter from the Chair of the Applied English department informing me that at the meeting today you will be forced to decide on whether to discontinue my contract.
I have no wish to put you through this unpleasant task, especially since I have no intention of remaining at Kainan any longer given the threatening and intimidating atmosphere towards staff, and many of you will have to continue to work with the current department and University management in the future. Therefore I have decided it is for the best if I resign before the meeting occurs.
Best wishes to you all and good luck for the future.
Ian Clarke
